Program Overview

Using the latest and most sophisticated software and technology, students in this program learn how to create storyboards, write scripts, operate professional cameras and film equipment, create special effects and so much more. They become experts in Film and Video Production, Social Media, Multimedia, Digital Marketing and Advertising.

Learning the Art of Communication through the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Draft and our other software programs students develop their own distinct creative artistic style, management and entrepreneurial skills while working closely with our highly skilled and industry experienced Instructors in a hands on learning environment.

Curriculum

In this Introductory Post Production course, the students will cover digital editing using the latest software and hardware. Students will learn the fundamental skills and operations of an edit suite. Through hands-on and class instruction, students will have the needed skills to edit for storytelling, news, outdoor scenes, interviews and have the needed information to troubleshoot technical challenges when editing.

Building on the knowledge base established in Storytelling (Basic), students will focus on story development, story lines and the creative process. Students continue to understand the technical styles to enhance their visual storytelling abilities.

Production is the physical creation of the materials to be edited together in post production. Students will experience key roles necessary for effective production, learn processes and understand industry terms. This course introduces the entire production flow. There are three main areas covered. Producing: an introduction to the role of the producer. Choosing an idea and the process of getting it done. Directing: an introduction to the role of director. Working with an idea, on camera talent, and crew to tell a story. Cinematography: telling stories visually with the camera, breaking events/scenes into discrete editable components, composition, camera location and position. Capturing audio on location is introduced. Throughout the production course students will learn the various aspects of telling stories with technology.

In this introductory course the students will cover digital editing using the latest software and hardware. Students will learn the fundamental skills and operations of an edit suite. Through hands-on and class instruction, students will have the needed skills to edit for storytelling, news, outdoor scenes, interviews and have the needed information to troubleshoot technical challenges when editing. Basic introduction to After Effects, Sound Sweeting, and Photoshop to enhance the basic video.

Building on the knowledge base established in Storytelling (Intro), students will focus on story development, story lines and the creative process. Students continue to understand the technical styles to enhance their visual storytelling abilities.

Across the three areas of producing, directing and cinematography, students will build on their knowledge and experience by completing more complex assignments. Producing: as productions get more complex, the role of producer also becomes more involved. Students will explore opportunities and learn to overcome roadblocks as they produce their stage two productions. Directing: working with a script, doing breakdowns, working with actors and larger crews. Cinematography: lighting, camera movement and camera technology are explored in stage two cinematography. An emphasis on efficient shooting techniques and time management on location to insure the maximum editable footage is delivered to post. More complex audio recording is covered. Throughout the production course students will learn the various aspects of telling stories with technology.

This program gives you a combination of business skills and entrepreneurial knowledge to help prepare you to run a production company and get your new idea off the ground.

In this Intermediate Post Production course, the students will cover digital editing using the latest software and hardware. Students will learn the fundamental skills and operations of an edit suite. Through hands-on and class instruction, students will have the needed skills to edit for storytelling, news, outdoor scenes, interviews and have the needed information to troubleshoot technical challenges when editing. Basic introduction to AVID Media Composer and Adobe Audition.

In the Intermediate course the students will work closely with the instructor to learn the intermediate level of storytelling and how to integrate the Director/Producer’s vision for the final production. This level is designed to allow the student to focus particularly on writing and to chart a direction for a career as a writer in the various industries. Special emphasis on creating a portfolio for career advancement.

Across the three areas, students will build on their knowledge and experience by completing more complex assignments. Producing: as productions get more complex, the role of producer also becomes more involved. Students will explore opportunities and learn to overcome roadblocks as they produce their stage two productions. Directing: working with a script, doing breakdowns, working with actors and larger crews. Cinematography: lighting, camera movement and camera technology are explored in stage two cinematography. An emphasis on efficient shooting techniques and time management on location to insure the maximum editable footage is delivered to post. More complex audio recording is covered. Throughout the production course, students will learn the various aspects of telling stories with technology.

In this Advanced Post Production course, the students will cover digital editing using the most advanced software and hardware. Students will learn the advanced knowledge to be able to complete skills and operations of an edit suite. Through hands-on and class instruction, students will have the needed skills to edit for storytelling, news, outdoor scenes, interviews and have the needed information to troubleshoot technical challenges when editing. This level is designed to allow the student to focus particularly on editing and to chart a direction for a career as an assistant editor, editor. Special emphasis on creating a portfolio for career advancement. Basic introduction to editing VR and 360 Video.

In the advanced skills course the students will work closely with the instructor to learn the advanced level of storytelling through different writing styles. This level is designed to perfect the art of writing and to better understand the writing styles for social media and corporate video and indie films. Students will be able to use a variety of different writing techniques to create a story with meaning clarity, and decisive information. Students will understand the philosophy of writing and what techniques create a better storytelling experience.

Students will work closely with the instructors to learn the advanced level of storytelling with the camera and other technologies. This level explores advanced camera movement, framing and lighting in the precise world of advertising, commercials and special effects. Students will create commercials and learn how to manipulate time in frames not seconds.

As a continuation of Basic, this advanced program gives you a combination of business skills and entrepreneurial knowledge to help prepare you to run a production company and get your new idea off the ground.

In this final semester the students will primarily be involved in work placement. They will work closely with the instructor to learn the advanced level of storytelling with the camera and how to integrate the Producer/Director’s vision of the final video.
