Westervelt College is one of the oldest colleges in Canada – having first opened our doors in 1885 in London, Ontario. Through the years, a lot has changed and evolved, but our dedication to our students and our community remains the same. At Westervelt College, we offer assistance every step of your educational journey. Our History

Westervelt College has a long and colourful history. Our college has come a long way and remains an important establishment within the  community since it was first founded in 1885 by James Washington Westervelt Sr.

1885	James Washington Westervelt Sr. establishes our college in 1885.
1886	A year later in 1886, Westervelt welcomes its first female students into its student population.
1896	Westervelt College assists in the founding of the Business Educators Association of Canada.
1897	Westervelt College expands and relocates to the YMCA Building, occupying the top floor of the King Street building by Wellington and Waterloo.
1917	Westervelt relocates once more – this time to 463 Richmond Street, which was originally known as the Western Hotel and later as Lucan Stagecoach Lines.
1972	The college remains at 463 Richmond Street until 1972 at which time it relocates to 190 Wortley Road.
1992	Donna and Allan Doerr take over directorship of Westervelt College. Together, they set to the task of building this educational institution, which has been a part of London’s history since 1885.

1994	Under the leadership of Donna and Allan Doerr, Westervelt College receives the Community Service Award from the National Association of Career Colleges.
1995	In 1995, the construction of the four-storey 40,000 square foot campus was completed at the corner of Wellington Street and Bradley Avenue. That campus served the college until September 2017.
1999	The Ontario Restaurant, Hotel and Motel Association (ORHMA) awards Westervelt College “Supplier of the Year” for supplying the best graduates in Ontario for employment in the Hospitality industry.
2001	In 2001, the London Police Service Recruiting and Training recognizes Westervelt College for its dedication and commitment to the training of members of the London Police Service through its Law, Security, and Police Foundations diploma program.
2009	Westervelt College receives the “Outstanding Business Achievement Award” by the London Chamber of Commerce – an association of which we are proud to be a part.
2010	2010 is a special year for the college as it celebrates 125 years and over 75,000 graduates.  That year, Westervelt receives recognition from the Prime Minister of Canada, the Premier of Ontario, as well as the Attorney General of Canada. “The enterprise and the hard work of those who have built Westervelt College over these many decades [are] an accomplishment that [have] benefitted the community and our province.”
2014	In August 2014, Westervelt College started to offer the Orthopaedic Technician program.
2015	In 2015, the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) approves Westervelt College to offer the Health Information Management program.  Upon completion of this diploma program, graduates will be able to certify through the Canadian College of Health Information Management (CCHIM) for the designation of CHIM.
2017	In 2017, Westervelt College was merged with three of Medix College’s locations in Brantford, London and Kitchener, Ontario. The newly formed Westervelt College is now one of Southwestern Ontario’s largest career colleges.
2018	Westervelt Graduates now surpass 100,000
2019	Westervelt board approves the opening of its 4th campus in Windsor, Ontario.
2020	Westervelt moves education and supports to online in wake of COVID19 Pandemic. Students continue to receive training and support to assist with filling much needed Healthcare positions.
2021	Westervelt participates in training more than 500 PSW’s across all 4 campuses in support of changing requirements in Ontario’s Long Term Care Act.
